IMAGINE: Legolas and you falling in love

Your chin quivers and tears well in your eyes as Éowyn, your sister, sings her funeral lament to your cousin Théodred. People silently weep and your uncle, king Théoden, looks at his son's grave, his face a mask of grief. You choke on a sob and clasp a hand over your mouth. Your uncle was just saved, from being under the influence of Saruman, thanks to Gandalf the White and his companions Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas. Your uncle awoke from his sickened state to the news of his beloved son's death. Legolas steps close to you and gently puts a hand on your shoulder. You look at him half in surprise and half in relief. You give him a watery smile and sniff. When Éowyn is finished with her funeral lament, people slowly start making their way back to Edoras. Théoden stays at his son's grave with Gandalf. You slowly walk back to Edoras with Legolas walking beside you. "I am sorry." He says softly. You sniff. "Théodred would have loved to see his father's redemption. It's all he ever talked about. It saddened him so much to see his father in such a state." You say hoarsely. “I take it you were close with him?" You smile sadly. "Éomer, Éowyn, Théodred, and I were the best of friends. We were near inseparable. When Théodred passed, uncle, influenced by Grima, banned my brother Éomer. Éowyn was all I had left. And now, because of you and your companions, I have my uncle back." Legolas smiles at you as the wind softly blows at his blond hair. "I hope my companions and I will be of even more use to you, my lady." He says gently. You shyly look away from him. ——— You watch two small children, Éothain and Freda, as they hungrily eat their food. Wild men attacked their village, brutally killing its inhabitants. You swallow down the fear that threatens to take a choke hold. “I won't risk open war." Théoden protests. “Open war is upon you whether you risk it or not." Aragorn retorts. “Last I checked, Théoden, not Aragorn, was king of Rohan." Your uncle fires back. A tension filled silence fills the room. Éowyn and you share a look. Your eyes glance at Legolas who's watching you. You swallow and clear your throat. "They're coming, uncle. And they will destroy us all if we do nothing." You whisper. Everyone in the room looks at you in surprise. You stand to your feet. "I will not stand here and hide while our people are murdered by these wild men." You shake your head. "It's not how my father and mother raised me." You add. Legolas smiles at you in admiration. “Me either." Éowyn agrees with you, standing. She gestures to the Éothain and Freda. "They had no warning. None whatsoever. What makes you think any other village will be different?" She says to Théoden. He stares at her and you in shock. He shakes his head firmly. "No, I won't have it. I will not risk your lives and the lives of my people. We evacuate. To Helm's Deep." He decides, before tearing out of the room. Your jaw drops in horror. Your eyes narrow angrily and you stalk out of the room. You push open the doors that lead outside and look out at the small village, the chill air blowing at you. “I agree with you." A voice says from beside you. You look up and see Legolas looking out at the village. The moon casts shadows across his face, making him look even more endearing. "It's a death trap, Legolas." You whisper, your voice cracking. "He expects to keep us safe there yet we will most likely die there." You choke out. Legolas finally looks at you, his blue eyes staring into yours. "I promise you, Y/N, I will protect you and your family with my very life if need be." He vows. "And I will be right beside you." You whisper. His face shows slight surprise. "Handling a weapon is not so foreign to me as most might think." You say with a smile. Legolas smiles back. "Bow or sword?" “Both." You answer, lifting your chin proudly. Legolas's smile grows and you can feel his admiration for you grow. It warms your heart. ——— On the way to Helm's Deep, Legolas and you walk beside each other and talk. A few times you catch Éowyn, who walks beside Aragorn, giving you knowing glances. You duck to hide your blush. You've grown very, very fond of Legolas. You know that when Éowyn and you have a moment alone, she'll want to talk about everything that's been transpiring between you and this wonderful Elf. You blush harder. “What is it?" Legolas asks curiously. “Nothing." You murmur softly. He smiles at you as he watches you. "What is it?" You ask him. He laughs softly, a beautiful sound. "Nothing." “Mm, somehow I don't believe you." He gently nudges you. "I can say the same for you." You laugh and nod. "Okay, okay. I'm guilty." You say. Legolas grins at you and then, ever-so-slowly, slides his hand into yours. You look down at your entwined hands and then back up to him. He looks forward, not meeting your eyes, a small smile dancing on his lips. Pleasure fills you and you smile. ——— "The woman and children into the caves! All able-bodied men and boys must fight!" Théoden exclaims as Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn walk beside him. “We can fight!" Eowyn exclaims, gesturing to her and you. You nod your agreement. “Out of the question. You both will go into the caves with the other women. You have to lead the women and the children." Théodred commands. Éowyn narrows her eyes and takes a deep breath before turning on her heel and heading in the other direction, angry. Everyone watches her go. You, however, are not so easily persuaded. You swivel your head to your uncle. "No. You need all the able-bodied persons you can get! Let's us fight!" You exclaim desperately. “That is out of the question, Y/N! Éowyn and you will not be fighting. Not this day." Your uncle says harshly. You glare at each other. You can feel Legolas's eyes on you. “We will not discuss this any further." Théoden tells you before walking away. Aragorn and Gimli follow him. You watch him leave, clenching and unclenching your fists. Legolas stands next to you. You look up at him miserably. "What can I do?" You plead. "I can't stay in that cave while the people I love are fighting a battle we are sure to lose." You whisper. Legolas puts a hand on your shoulder. "You have to listen to your uncle, Y/N. You may not want to, but he is your king. He's only doing what he thinks is right." “But it's not. It's not right." You sigh. ——— Éowyn starts to lead the women and children into the caves. You stay behind for a little while, making sure everyone has everything they need. You're trying your hardest to stay as long as possible. You're hoping Théoden will let you stay. Theoden enters the armory where you're helping Legolas gather weapons. As soon as your uncle spots you, his face darkens. "What are you still doing here?" He demands. “I'm-I'm helping Legolas." You answer. “You get down to the caves with your sister!" He commands. “I will, I will." “Now, Y/N!" He insists. “Can I say goodbye to Legolas first?" That pulls Théoden up straight. He looks between Legolas and you, his face softening. "Yes, yes, of course." He says, more gentle. He sighs. "Then will you go? Please?" He begs. You nod, wordless. Théoden walks out of the armory, leaving Legolas and you alone again. You swallow and look up at him. "Well, I guess this is it. I've been stalling." You admit. Legolas smiles sadly at you and gently takes the sword out of your hands. He holds your hands to his chest. “As have I." He whispers. You stare at each other for a long minute. Legolas suddenly pulls you into his arms, holding you against him tightly. You wrap your arms around him and squeeze your eyes shut. "Promise me you will be careful, Legolas. Please. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you." You whisper into his hair. “Only if you will promise me you will be just as safe." He whispers back. Neither of you say anything else, but just cling to each other. Finally Legolas pulls back. He cups the sides of your head with his hands, staring down at you. He looks like he wants to say more, but the words go unspoken. “You better go." He whispers. You nod once. "I know." You sigh. He hugs you once more and then releases you, taking a step away from you. You can't stop the tears from pooling in your eyes. “Legolas, we have to go." Gimli says, walking into the room. Legolas grabs his weapons and walks out the door. Before he's completely out of sight, he looks at you one last time. Then he's gone. You take a deep breath, a sob strangled in your throat. ——— You hold a small child in your arms as you hear the sounds of battle from afar. Women are weeping and you're trying not to cry with them. You hate feeling so helpless. You hate that your uncle made you stay down here and not fight. In a few minutes, it gets too much for you to bear. You set the child down and stand up. You stalk over to Éowyn who's holding a baby. "I can't do this anymore. I know what uncle said, but I can't stay here and not fight. It's not me. It's not in my blood, so do not try to stop me." You tell her. “I'm not going to try and stop you. I wish I could go with you." She whispers hoarsely. You smile a little. "I know." You whisper. “Be careful, Y/N." “I will." You tell her, before running off. When you get to the armory, you pull the back of your skirt up through your legs and tie it at your hip for makeshift pants. You strap a sword to your hip and multiple daggers. You grab a set of bow and arrows. You pull your shoulders back and take a deep breath, before stalking outside. You stay back, shooting off arrows at Orcs. It's horrendous. The sights. The screams. The blood. The bodies. You frantically look around for Legolas and your uncle. You spot your uncle holding his own against an Orc. You search madly for Legolas, feeling fear and panic creep in. Finally you spot him. You heart nearly stops. He's battling an Orc and doesn't notice the one with an ax that's coming up behind him. Your eyes widen and you quickly nock an arrow. You step into sight to get a clear shot of the Orc. You hold your breath and release the arrow just as Legolas cuts down the first Orc he's fighting. He whirls around just as your arrow lodges in the neck of the Orc, sending him falling to the ground, dead. Legolas slowly looks at the dead Orc and then up at you. You can tell he's smiling widely. You take out of your sword and start fighting your way to Legolas. When you get to him, the area is mostly cleared. For now. Legolas grabs your upper arm and pulls you around a wall to block you both from the oncoming Orcs. “What are you doing here?" "I have to fight, Legolas. I can't-I can't stay in the caves and feel helpless." You explain. “I'm glad you're here, Y/N. You saved my life." He whispers. You smile up at him. Your smile immediately drops as you hear the roar of oncoming Orcs. Legolas stares down at you. "I don't know what will happen, Y/N, in the upcoming minutes. But I do know one thing. I love you. I love you very much." He tells you in a hurry. “I love you too." You whisper. He steps forward and kisses you passionately. “Are you joking right now? We're in the middle of a battle and you two are kissing!" Gimli exclaims, walking by. Legolas pulls back, smiling at you. You smile back. “Are you ready, my love?" He asks. "As long as I'm by your side." You answer, clutching your sword. [THE END] I hope you liked it!
