You sit at the bank of the raging river, your heart pounding. Your eyes follow the river down to the deadly, raging rapids. You sniff, tears burning in your eyes. You turn your body to look around at the woods behind you, making sure no one is watching you. Once you're confident you're alone, you look back out at the river. "I'm sorry, mother. I'm so sorry." You whisper, your voice cracking. You look up at the sky as tears slide out of the corners of your eyes. "I'll be with you soon. I promise." You say hoarsely. You plant your hands in the ground, preparing to launch yourself into the river—preparing to end it all. "Wait, no, stop!" You hear someone scream. You whirl around in surprise and see a man running towards you. Determination swells up in you. "No! You can't stop me!" You shout at him. Before you can throw yourself into the water, the man lunges for you and tackles you to the ground. "Get off of me!" You growl, trying to push him off. He ignores your protests. "Why were you trying to throw yourself into the river? It's deadly!" He exclaims. You glare up at him. "I know." You grit out. His eyebrows draw and he falters slightly. "Wait...were you trying to die on purpose?" You start crying. "There's nothing left for me here. I have nothing. I have no one. I'm all alone." You sob. "No, no, no, don't say that." He whispers, getting off of you. You sit up and wipe your face. "Why do you care?" "Because we're the same, you and I. There's nothing left for me here either. I don't have anyone. I'm alone, like you. For years I've been exploring the world, looking for someone to share my adventures with." He says softly. You sniff. "Who are you?" "My name is Louis de Pointe de Lac. And you are?" You stare at him. "Y/N." You answer. --- You walk with Louis through the woods. "There was only ever my mother and me. We did everything together, shared the same house, worked the same job. Everything. She was my best friend. And then she died." You explain, your voice hollow. "I lost everything. Everything was out of whack. I'm honestly surprised I didn't end up in a mental institution." "So you just thought there was no point in going on?" Louis asks. You nod, frowning. "A coward's way out, I know." You murmur. "No, I understand though." He says softly. "So what's your story?" You ask curiously. Louis smiles at you. "Uh, you wouldn't believe me if I told you." "Try me." You laugh. "Well, I'm a vampire." "Yeah, and I'm a unicorn." You scoff, rolling your eyes. "Told you you wouldn't believe me." He mutters. You stop walking and stare at him. "Wait, you're serious." Louis turns and looks at you. "Of course I'm serious!" He exclaims. Your jaw drops. "Okay...you're right...I don't really believe you." "Nobody ever does." He huffs, walking on without you. You jog to catch up with him. "Wait, is that why you're all alone? Because everyone you loved died?" You ask. He nods. "It's not easy being immortal." "Oh, I'm so sorry." You whisper. "So you've been exploring the world—" "Looking for someone to share my adventures with." He finishes. You sidle up next to him, smiling. "Well, I think you just found someone." You say. Louis looks at you and smiles. --- Louis and you explore the world together for the next six months. You've become very close friends and soon, you hope, something even closer. You've fallen in love with Louis, much to the surprise of you. You've found something—someone—worth living for. One day Louis and you walk the streets of Paris. "It's so beautiful here." You murmur. "Isn't it? I love it." Louis replies. You spot the Eiffel Tower up ahead and heave a heavy, happy sigh. "Want to walk over there?" He asks, smiling at you, nodding his head towards the Eiffel Tower. "You don't have to ask me twice." You laugh. Louis and you walk to the Eiffel Tower. "Wow." You breathe in wonder, staring at it, your eyes wide. You can feel Louis staring at you. A blush climbs into your face. "Louis?" You ask, looking at him. "Yes, Y/N?" He replies. You swallow and then take a deep breath. You slowly slide your hand into his. "These past months with you have been...well, they've been some of the best months of my life. I love exploring the world with you. I love sharing these adventures with you. I love spending time with you. I love...I love...I love..." You trail off. "I love you." Louis finishes for you, his voice soft. "Yes! Yes. I love you." You say, smiling. He wraps his arms around your hips. "I never thought I'd hear you say that." He murmurs, smiling. You put your hands on his chest. "Well, you have." You laugh softly. Louis lowers his head down and kisses you softly. You gasp softly and kiss him back. [THE END] I hope you liked it!
